Campus GCs:
Good afternoon. Recall President Hans’ statements in March about wanting to eliminate University facilitated access to certain anonymous, hyperlocal software platforms that are adversely affecting the mental health of our students.
I’m attaching here a clean copy of a draft regulation that President Hans is considering adopting regarding anonymous, hyperlocal software applications on University networks.
This draft has been developed in my office with comment solicited from our CIO and in turn by Mr. Maurice Ferrell to CIOs across the UNC System. My sense is each of your CIOs through the CIO Council have chewed on this quite a bit. We’ve incorporated that feedback in the draft I am sharing with you.
This document has one more step to go through at the UNC System Office senior leadership level before it is presented again to the President, but he authorized me to share this draft with each of you under the Doctrine of No Surprises.
By copy, I also ask Mr. Ferrell to share this final draft with your CIOs for one more bite at the feedback.
If in reviewing this you have comments, questions, or other feedback, please let me know. You’ll see that the draft envisions issuance this month with efficacy as of July 1, 2024.
If you have feedback, questions, or concerns, please let me know. Andrew Tripp
